How to read this site

Evidence is graded, not asserted

Every profile states the strongest tier of evidence that exists for that compound, and says plainly where the tier is low. A cell-culture result and a phase 3 trial are not the same thing, and the site never lets them look the same.

1. In-vitro evidence

Findings come from cells, tissues or biochemical systems studied outside a living organism. Such findings describe what a compound can do in a controlled system, not what it does in a person.

2. Animal evidence

Findings come from studies in living non-human animals. Species differences in physiology, metabolism and dosing mean animal results frequently do not carry over to humans.

3. Early human evidence

Findings come from small, early-phase or observational human studies. These are typically short, sparsely replicated, and designed to examine tolerability or signal rather than to establish effect.

4. Established clinical evidence

Findings come from adequately powered, replicated controlled trials in humans, generally supported by regulatory assessment or systematic review.
